Rhode Island State Fair 2013 would be a great event, but unfortunately the state is one of only a few that have no official state fair. Boo HIss!
The State Fair of Virginia filed for bankruptcy, ending 156 years of state fairing in Virginia.
But if Virginia does say goodbye to a State Fair for good, we won’t be the only state in the nation without one.
Rhode Island doesn’t have a state fair, nor does it seem it ever had one, relying instead on a county fairto fill in the gap.
Michigan lost its State Fair to bankruptcy a few years back but the Michigan State Fair is back and better than ever; Connecticut appears to have a livestock fair in lieu of a state one, and Pennsylvania considers the Farm Show its state fair.
Ironically, DC has a State Fair as does all of New England. So do Hawaii and Alaska.
So, really, it’s just Rhode Island and Michigan.
VA’s new tagline: Virginia, just like Rhode Island. Only bigger. Or not.
Update: Nevada lost its state fair almost one year to the day after Virginia lost its: March 8, 2011.
