An exclusive and elegant evening for collectors of fine wine, The Vault sets the stage for the Grand Tasting. This year’s format will feature two great opportunities for serious collectors: the first allows wine enthusiasts to sample from over 120 exhibiting wine and spirit producers. The second, and most exclusive tier, is The Collection. Curated by the official Festival Artist Christopher M., this tier will feature highly allocated wines and limited access to consumers. A silent auction takes place during this event with proceeds benefiting the American Institute of Wine and Food culinary arts scholarship programs.

Join world-renowned Master Sommeliers as they walk you through how to determine varietal, vintage and AVA utilizing classic techniques involving sight, smell and taste.

Find out what the professionals look for and learn how to identify different varietals and styles of wine following the Master Sommelier technique of wine identification. The blind tasting will be conducted in the Court of Master Sommeliers’ tasting format.

Nationally acclaimed Master Sommeliers Michael Jordan, Thomas Price, and Sur Lucero will moderate a panel of local San Diego Sommeliers as they taste along with the audience and try to establish the varietal, region and vintage. Each panel member will talk through why the particular wine’s color, aroma, and palate lead them to believe they know the wine’s properties and characteristics. Taste from six exceptional wines along with our expert panel and test your ability to determine the grape varietal, AVA and age.

Discover the unsung stars of one of the best and oldest wine producing regions in the world. This tasting and Master Class will feature the Gold Medal winners of the Commanderie de Bordeaux United States’ annual blind-tasting competition as well as the top under-$40 wines in New York’s “Today’s Bordeaux” competition. There are close to 8,500 wine producing chateaux across the Bordeaux region, with the term chateaux implying anything from a 17th century castle to a warehouse or even a garage.

Known as “petits chateaux”, these often smaller, lesser-known properties are producing consistently delicious wines due to modern winemaking techniques and better vineyard management. The Commanderie de Bordeaux’s annual blind-tasting competition seeks to bring some of these under-$40 gems to the attention of wine lovers worldwide. One need not break the bank to enjoy the Bordeaux blends that the rest of the world continues to try to emulate.
