Swift Fest 2013 festival in Jonestown Texas September

Swift Fest 2013 festival will be held September 7 in Jonestown Texas featuring live music and games and activities for all ages.  Swift Fest is a celebration of the chimney swifts (swifts) of Jonestown TX, migratory birds that make the City their home during their migration. the festival is centered on the birds’ evening return to their cistern home located in downtown Jonestown, which is a tornado-like site fascinating to see.   Live music, nature themed vendors, food and adult beverages, and entertainment for children of all ages make this festival fun for everyone.

Swift Fest 2013 festival information

Swift Fest 2013 will be held Saturday, September 7, 2013, from 3 to 10pm in downtown Jonestown, about 30 minutes northwest of Austin.  The free festival is a community celebration centered on protecting and promoting Chimney Swifts, a migratory bird that the city is fortunate to have stopover every year during the birds’ migration.

This year’s Swift Fest will feature a musical lineup that includes the Paul Glasse Trio, Drew Womack, Sarah Pierce Band and Bottom Dollar String Band, a mix of Jazz, Bluegrass and Americana.

 

Environmentally-themed art and commercial vendors will be on site, as will nature games and activities for families.  The majority of the festival is set up under the shade of old oak trees with food and beverages (including adult) available.  The festival culminates with a walk to a nearby cistern to watch the swifts make their return for the evening, a tornado-like site fascinating to see.   Saturday, September 7 is part of Swift Night Out, a continent-wide swift count to raise awareness about the birds.  Guess the number of swifts that drop into the cistern that evening and win a prize.
