Monarch Madness 2013 festival in Navarre Florida will be huge! Don’t miss it! This could be one of the most amazing Monarch festival in Florida, EVER! Join the Panhandle Butterfly House in celebrating the amazing journey of the monarch butterfly. The Sixth Annual Monarch Madness Butterfly Festival will be held October 4 and 5 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Located at 8581 Navarre Parkway on Highway 98 in Navarre, Florida, the festival offers fun for the entire family.
Thanks to support from the Santa Rosa County Tourist Development Council, kids will be invited to assist in the tagging and release a monarch butterfly, and can study the life cycle of butterflies to become Junior Lepidopterists. “The tagging program is a part of a nationwide research program that helps answer questions about the geographic origins of monarchs that reach Mexico, the timing and pace of the migration, mortality during migration, and changes in geographic distribution” said Mary Derrick, UF/IFAS Santa Rosa County Extension Agent. Kids can also make and take fun butterfly-related crafts and have an opportunity to release a live butterfly. The entire family will enjoy strolling through the vivarium–- a screen structure housing hundreds of butterflies and the plants they love. And, all can buy butterfly themed t-shirts, books and more at the Monarch Market.
