You do not want to miss the Choke Cherry Festival this year in Williston, North Dakota. The event is one that features something for everyone; young and old alike. The festival is held in August for 2 days and is one of the featured celebrations in the whole state!
ND Chokecherry Festival honors the accomplishment of a group of Williston 6th graders who petitioned the ND state legislature as part of a persuasive letter writing assignment to make the chokecherry the ND state fruit. Seven years later, the festival continues to grow and flourish, with many live music acts, vendors booths and food in the park, many children’s activities, a free burger feed and free ice cream with chokecherry syrup on Friday evening, free pancake breakfast with chokecherry syrup on Saturday morning and this year for the first time, a community fish fry on Saturday evening. There is also a 5,000 road race and a chokecherry themed store.
