History of the Douglas, Wyoming State Fair and 4h fair and rodeo events

The Douglas Wyoming State Fair has a great history for Wyoming tourism and also a strong force in building community pride for Douglas since the festival started in 1886 as The Territorial Fair as it was first called with its support and backing of the Fair Association of Wyoming. At first it was 80 acres but the true location has been lost with time due to inadequate record keeping, but it was believed to be somewhere along Cheyenne and N. Railroad, near Cheyenne, Wyoming and according to an Wyoming map from around that time, it seems have be fairly accurate. The location was held there for almost half a decade according to records.

Then around the 1900s it was held in Laramie, followed by Sheridan, and next it was on to Casper, Wyoming where it had a much larger show. Around this time, about 500 attendees would be expected to show. Then Douglas became the main location after 1905. The people of Douglas along with the 4-H club and Future Farmers of America got behind the cause around 1980 and it became much larger than the earlier events.

Some earlier events were the Wyoming State Spelling Contest, with every county sending someone to represent them and was supervised the Wyoming Education Department and the Wyoming Transportation Department helping with mapping out the locations. The fair lost momentum during the depression and the WWII bt came back strong afterwards and is the great state fair that you love today.

The Wyoming State Fair is a largely agricultural exposition and rodeo held every August in Douglas, Wyoming. The festival fairground is located on west Yellowstone Highway on the waterside of N Platte River.

In 1905 Douglas won the selection for the state fair and this continue for many year with only a few hiccups along the way: there were no fair events in 1935 to 1937 due to the Depression and no in 1942 to 1945 due to the World War II. The state fair is officially sanctioned by the Wyoming Department of Agriculture. During the fair, up to 455 camping places are available on the south side of the fair ground, parking space is limited.

Festival Shot Glass Packages for vending sales

Vending at festivals
Festival Shot Glass Packages for vending sales How to star vending – We spent $1,599 for festival merchandise and vending packages and we ended up making $100,000 throughout the year, and that includes all the added bonuses of travelling the country, spending time with awesome people, and checking out some of the best music festivals in the nation.  It was a dream come true!
Large crowds flock to music festivals, bringing you new customers.

Vending at a music festival provides you with an opportunity to make money while enjoying steady performances by a variety of bands. Whether you are offering concessions or selling homemade crafts or art, the music festival will bring customers to you whom you might not have reached otherwise. Before you can get to the festival, however, you’ll need to do a little legwork to learn the cost for the music fest and know whether you need to fill out an application to be accepted.

Step 1
Pick the music festival you’re interested in vending at based on its location (how easy it would be for you to get there), the size of the event (larger crowds equal more chances for sales) and if the festival is inside or out (whether you’ll need supplies to protect against wind, rain and sun). Search online (see Resources) for festivals if you don’t know of any offhand.
Great ways to make money mean you got to be smart about it.  One of the best ways is through festival shot glass sales at music and art fest
Step 2
Contact the organizer of the event and ask about the process of becoming a vendor. Find out whether an application is required, the cost of getting a space, the size of the space, if it supplies tables and how long it will take before you are certain you will be vending at the event. The organizer might ask you about the products you’ll be selling to ensure variety at the festival.

Step 3
Fill out any applications as required by the organizers, and include photos of your products or crafts if needed. Send in any deposits or application fees, if needed. Turn in the application and required items before the due date to avoid being rejected based on a late entry.
Step 4
Wait for a phone call or letter of acceptance to verify if your merchandise is going to be included in the festival. The phone call or letter should inform you of when you will be allowed to arrive at the festival site for setup, where you should park, what facilities are exclusively for vendors, what you need to bring and when you need to be packed and leaving the festival.
Step 5
Prepare your inventory so you will have more than enough stock to sell through the duration of the festival. Make an inventory list of exactly what you are taking to the festival so you can see your sales at a glance each day. Make change with your bank in advance to ensure you have a variety of coins and bills on hand.
Step 6
Arrive at the festival when the organizer stated is OK and set up your booth area as needed for your merchandise. Be courteous and follow the festival’s rules for vendor conduct to ensure you’ll be allowed back in subsequent years. Keep your booth area tidy so merchandise is easy to see for customers.
Step 7
Thank the organizer for the vending opportunity over the phone a few days after the show is over as a good business practice. Talk about vending again at the music festival for the following year, and get any information it has about other festivals that might be successful for you.
See article on Vending with Crazy Business at Fairs, Carnivals and Festivals

Some Music festival shot glass vending pointers

  • Many music festivals post their vendor information and applications online, making them easy to find with just a Web search of the festival’s name and city.
  • Take a stack of business cards with you to the event and take orders from customers who want to do business with you in the future.
  • When possible, contact previous vendors of the festival to get a feel for the pace of people shopping, such as slow Fridays but busy Saturdays, and if they tend to make a profit against the fees of setting up a booth and traveling to the site. If they feel negatively about the festival, it might not be worth the trouble.

HISTORY of Grand Teton Music Festival

Celebrating its 52nd season in 2013, Grand Teton Music Festival is the home of classical music in Jackson Hole. Conceived at the kitchen table of Baroness Consuelo von Gontard’s cabin on the Melody Ranch, Grand Teton Music Festival now takes place in its own acoustically inspiring hall and is known for orchestral and chamber music performances befitting the grandeur of its Teton Mountain setting.

Since 2006, Donald Runnicles has been the Music Director. He also is Music Director of the Deutsche Oper Berlin and the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and Principal Guest Conductor of the Atlanta Symphony.

Initially called the Jackson Hole Fine Arts Festival, the organization gave orchestral concerts on a gym floor and performed chamber music on the lawn of St. John’s Episcopal Church.

The turning point in the Festival’s artistic development came when Ling Tung became Music Director in 1968. With the Tetons as an irresistible calling card, he envisioned the Festival as a summer retreat for an elite group of professional musicians. They would come for an honorarium and housing. Collectively through their modest compensation, they would make the largest financial contribution to the Festival’s operation.

Musicians from America’s great orchestras and conservatory faculties answered the call to perform challenging orchestral repertoire and chamber music of their choice with like-minded colleagues.

In 1970, Grand Teton Music Festival moved to Teton Village in a concert tent and in 1974 into its own concert hall. Fortunately the hall turned out to be both a home and an acoustical marvel. Its sonorous, clear sound has become an additional calling card for musicians and audience alike.

By remaining true to its core identity as “an orchestral Musicians’ Shangri-La”, Grand Teton Music Festival is known as “one of the best places in the country to hear classical music” (Wall Street Journal)
