Bluemont Bbq Bash and Blackberry Bonanza festival

While you may have heard some buzz about the Bluemont Bbq Bash and Blackberry Bonanza festival you will want to read some of the facts that make it one of the most loved events in the greatest city in the nation!  Read below for the top 8 reasons you don’t want to miss out on the fun and excitement at this great event!

Saturday, July 27th will be the official KCBS competition with nationally ranked competitors lighting up their grills and slow cooking the juiciest pork, beef & chicken that anyone has ever tasted. Then the hand selected official KCBS judges get to score each competitor to see who gets to go home with Fortessa’s sponsored Grand Champion platter and the cash prize.We have competitors arriving from all over the country with some ranking in the top 10 list in the nation!

The People’s Choice Competition on Saturday, July 27th is a bit more light hearted and benefits Boulder Crest Retreat for wounded warriors. VIPs and guests have the opportunity to purchase 5 samples of BBQ and rank their favorite to award the People’s Choice Crown. The judging guidelines are simpler and voting is via a token to judge some of these nationally ranked competitors.

The Blackberry Bonanza Dessert Competition on Saturday, July 27th is judged by the VIPs and is the perfect sweet finish to the day. Competitors include BBQ teams, local bakers and people who just love to cook, use Great Country Farms fresh blackberries in decadent creations to win the sweetest dish.

Sunday, July 28th we have our newest addition to the festival, The Backyard BBQ Competition. Those who are not ready to take on the National Competition can come on Saturday to check out how it’s done, and then try it themselves as a competitor on Sunday. It is a great opportunity for local BBQ lovers to see if they have the master skills to continue as a KCBS competitor.

The Waiters Race with be held Saturday & Sunday where you can cheer on your favorite restaurant or bbq competitor as they compete for the top prize by going through an obstacale course the fastest with a full wine glass.

While you are here, plan on taking a hayride out for u-pick blackberries, which will be at their peak. Our berries are thornless and trellised for easy picking and are pesticide free! After all the excitement wind down with a wine-tasting by Bluemont Vineyard.

This weekend the farm goes to the dogs! It may be the hottest part of the summer, but the Dog Days at Great Country are all about fun with your family and canine companions! Bring the whole family for a romp in the play area and to u-pick peaches in our orchard at the peak of perfection. We will have an impressive agility course, Doggie Olympics, and demonstrations that will make you bark! Bring your retriever’s favorite item to enjoy a dip in the pond. The first hundred pups to visit the farm will receive a doggie bag of goodies and shop for fun gifts to bring home! All canine companions are asked to bring their owners on a leash and sport their finest rabies certification tag. Canine drinking water and scooping bags provided.
