2014 Fort Worth Opera Festival

2014 Fort Worth Opera Festival – Founded in 1946, Fort Worth Opera is the oldest continually performing opera company in Texas, and among the oldest opera companies in the United States. Known for its willingness to take risks, the company’s upcoming 2014 Festival – running April 19, 2013-May 11, 2013 in Fort Worth – will include two premieres and two beloved classics. Kicking off the season is the exotic tale of The Pearl Fishers.

Evoking the mystery of ancient Ceylon, George Bizet–composer of the ever-popular Carmen–conjures a story of passion, betrayal, forgiveness, and sacrifice. Mozart’s comedic classic Così fan tutte comes next, and when its two leading characters set out to prove the fidelity of their fiancees, we learn that love can be a dangerous game.

Entertainment enthusiasts will also get lost in the drama of of Kevin Puts and Mark Campbell’s Pulitzer Prize award-winning Silent Night. Based on the true story of a spontaneous moment of peace during World War I, the opera –sung in English, German, French, and Latin–explores the cost of war and the nature of humankind in the face of exceptional circumstances. Rounding out the 2014 Festival is the professional world premiere of Daniel Crozier and Peter M. Krask’s With Blood, With Ink. Telling the powerful story of Sor (Sister) Juana Inéz de la Cruz, the inspirational 17th Century Mexican nun and champion of women’s rights, this chamber performance will be held in an intimate 160 seat black box space.

Nestled in historic downtown Fort Worth, the Fort Worth Opera Festival’s main-stage productions are held at the world-famous Bass Performance Hall. It’s smaller chamber opera will take place just across the street from Bass Hall in McDavid Studio. Throughout the month-long event, audiences can take part in exclusive architectural tours of Ball Hall-complete with backstage access- enjoy lively informational pre-show lectures, and sip champagne with the stars of the night’s opera in the one-of-a-kind After Show Lounge.
